Halogen light bulb

Halogen Light Bulbs Will Be Banned Starting September 2021 In The UK

Halogen light bulbs are proven to be very energy consuming and bad for the environment. According to gov.uk, a “shift to LED bulbs will cut 1.26 million tonnes of CO2. This is the equivalent of removing over half a million cars from UK roads“.

Not only do halogen light bulbs pollute more, they are less safe than LED’s. This is because they reach higher temperature and therefore create a higher fire risk.

While halogen light bulbs brightened our homes for many years, they are simply too dim for the long term.  Modern LED bulbs are to be the alternative. They are expected to represent 85% of light bulbs available on the market by 2030.

LED Light Bulbs To Take Over

LED light bulbs will replace halogen bulbs. They consume less energy and have a life expectancy of 15 to 20 years, as opposed to a maximum of 2 years for halogen bulbs. This also means that, despite LED bulbs usually having a more expensive initial cost, they are more economical on the long run as they will not require to be changed as often as a halogen bulb would.

Lastly, LED lights produce the same amount of halogen lights using 80% less power. Not only does this makes them a great candidate for a replacement, it also means there is hope for a brighter, cleaner future ahead.
